Leadership Qualities

Leadership is the ability to make others to follow you. A leader has a clear vision and can articulate that vision into action. To achieve the vision, a leader must communicate the vision to his followers in a very clear and passionate way, motivating and guiding them. Effective leadership doesn’t require technical or intellectual capabilities, but an attitude and behaviors relating to humanity are required for good leadership. Leadership has produced theories of traits, behavior, situational interactions, power, vision, charisma, knowledge, and intelligence.

Leadership is concerned with decision-making and action relating to the fulfillment of the vision. The leader has to act on the basis of not only vision but also has to keep in mind the culture and reputation of the organization he is concerned with. A leader's working methods may be influenced by his own personality and traits, which differ from those of a leader.

                                                   

The differences between a manager and a leader. 

The leader is concerned with the large group and focused on the vision, but the manager has a very limited purpose of getting the work done by his team.

Leadership inspires, but management plans.

-Management finds faults, but leadership praises.

-Management directs Leadership asks questions

-Leadership supports and management desires achievement

.A leader's qualities are general qualities that help him understand and relate to his followers. One of a leader's qualities is to make or compel one to follow him willingly. Effective leaders energize their followers using humor, relieving tension and boredom.

 

The qualities required for a leader:

 Integrity

Honesty

Respecting ethical value

Optimistic determination

 Passionate

Humble

Sincerity

Assertiveness

Clarity and openness

A sense of humor

and knowledge

Different styles of leadership:

 leadership has different styles which are being pursued by a leader at the right time for a certain situation. Ideal leadership demands flexibility, which means the leader selects the style according to the circumstances and situations or the status of the team member.

-Adaptability style is taken by the same leaders.

Many people are resistant and overworked due to the dominant type of leadership. This kind of leadership gives tough challenges to pursue in a controlled situation.

-Ethical leadership increases the massive awareness and interest among the people in corporate responsibility and the welfare of social beings. A participative style

of leadership is selected when there is a need for increased motivation and commitment in the team. The executive

style of leadership is being changed to a participative management style when the team management is poor.

 Some qualities which move parallel to the leadership styles:

Vision is associated with visionary leadership.

The leader who is seen doing things has an action-oriented style.

A participative leadership style is associated indirectly with the characteristics of compassion in a leader.

Listening is also a trait that is associated with leadership where the leader listens and perceives. Here, there is a match bond established between the followers and the leader.

 

For the organization, the identification of the leaders is important to realize for their fulfillment of the goals and visions that can enhance the performance of the organization. The leader is said to be successful when his performance matches the organization's expectations with his follower power .
